Wax Hair Removal
Wax hair removal, up until more recently, was one of the most common forms of hair removal, particuarly amongst women. The more common method which is fast becoming more popular amongst men and women a like is the use of depilatory creams, better know as hair removal creams. It’s also far more popular than laser hair removal and electrolysis hair removal, mainly due to cost.
Wax hair removal is the process by which the hair along with it’s root is removed from the skin through a process called depilation. The process of waxing completely removes the hair from the follicle and leaves the area as an empty collection of cells. The regrowth period will very much depend on how strong the hair was and the individual person, usually though it will take between 4-6 weeks for the hair to regrow to the length it was before.
Areas Of The Body Which Waxing Can Be Applied
Because waxing is simply the use of hot wax, paper and a wooden applicator this means it’s actually relatively safe and so can be pretty much applied to ost areas of the body with the exception of the face. These include being able to apply it to the legs, arms, back, upper lip, bikini and also to the eyebrows.
Advantages & Disadvantages Of Waxing
Just like anything there are always advantages and disadvantages, waxing is certainly no different. Firstly looking at the advantages:
- Waxing is relatively quick and easy to remove quite large amounts of hair from the body with an immediate visual effect
- Waxing is relatively cheap in comparison to many other depilatory alternatives
- Waxing lasts a relatively long period of time, especially in comparison to shaving with a razor
- Waxing results in a fine hair regrowth rather than the coarse regrowth seen with razor blades
However, where there are advantages there are almost always disadvantages, although the disadvantages with waxing are actually few and far between. The main disadvantages include:
- Unfortunately waxing treatments have to be repeated at intervals in order to keep the area free from hair
- Waxing can be painful to those who have a lower pain threshold
- Wax hair removal can cause regrowth to result in ingrowing hairs, just like with razor shaving
What Are The Main Types Of Waxing?
There are a few different types of waxing available to you, these include warm waxing, hot waxing and sugaring.
Warm Wax Hair Removal
The warm waxing method is one of the most popular methods of wax hair removal the main reason being it’s ability to be able to remove large areas of hair quickly and easily. Unlike hot wax the warm wax is removed from the skin pretty much straight after application and is not left in place to dry like hot wax is. This makes this type of waxing idea for things like facial hair removal.
Warm waxing is carried out with the application of the warm wax onto the skin and the removal of the wax, and hair, with the placement and quick removal of a paper strip onto the area of skin where hair is to be removed from.
Hot Wax Hair Removal
The process of using hot wax to remove hair is becoming less popular in preference for more popular methods like warm waxing and hair removal creams. Hot wax is made up from resi and beeswax, it involves the application of this tick wax directly onto the skin where the hair is to be removed. The wax is applied in a much ticket layer than warm waxing and it’s left to cool on the skin, then the wax is removed with a strip and super fast movement.
The benefit of using hot wax over warm wax is mainly that hot wax will work better on stronger and more coarse hair which would be otherwise difficult to remove with warm wax. The major disadvantages of hot waxing though are that you can’t remove large areas of hair all at once, it takes a long time ot complete and it doesn’t always remove hairs that lie flat against the skin.
Sugaring Hair Removal
Sugaring is basically the same process as the other main types of wax hair removal, the only different is that instead ofusing wax a mixture of sugure, lemon and water are used. The benefit of using the sugaring waxing over conventional waxing is that it’s good for clients who have sensetive skin, it can be used at muchlower temperatures and it’s produced from purely natural ingredients.
Side Effects Of Wax Hair Removal
Usually there aren’t really any permanent side effects to waxing, some individuals are know to get a slight tingling sensation or redened area around the area of waxing but this will usually subside and disappear some hours later. It’s always a good idea though to speak to your therapists about possible reactions to waxing prior to commencing your treatment.
